exposition PAINTING EXHIBITION AT CARREFOUR DES JEUNES OF BAMAKO 22th - 25th May 2015

Du 22/05/2015 au 25/05/2015

Arts Paintings Exhibition Project proposal
Theme: “Peace and Reconciliation” Paix et Réconciliation.
Dieudonne Amigoe is one of the finest artists in the West African sub-region. Born in 1977 and raised in Togo, his impeccable art skills in figurative and abstract drawing have attracted the attention of people from near and far. In 2010 one of his art works was the sensation in Mali, as it captured the imagination of top officials in Mali and France. He was interviewed by Radio France International for this work.
He currently works at the American international school in The Gambia as an arts teacher. He has also worked at the American school in Bamako, Mali as an arts teacher for two years.
To depict the sometimes strained relationship between France and her colonies, and the unbalance relationship, he painted this on the 50th independence anniversary. His portrayals are very telling and it once compelled the then Malian President, Amadou Toumani Toure, to visit his work, which was displayed in the Malian Capital Bamako. In 2005, he did a painting named “Jacque Chirac testament” depicting France-Africa relation when Jacque Chirac was in power in France. It was for this work that Radio France International (RFI) interviewed him in Mali.
His skills in portraying the socio-political and economic vicissitudes of Africa before and now through his art work had earned him a reputation as on of the quintessential artist to have emerged from the African continent. His art work has taken him to Niger, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana and Gambia when he left Togo in 2001.
In 2001, his portrait of Civil Right Activist, Martin Luther King Jr, in Niger received acclaim. . The art work was done to celebrate the life and achievements of Martin Luther King on his birthday.and the progress made so far in race relations in The USA.
In 2007, he took part in a solo arts exhibition in Dakar, Senegal, to raise awareness about the then burgeoning prevalence of the deadly HIV/AIDS virus by working with the Embassy of Luxembourg in Senegal.
What makes his story so remarkable is that, as a wheel-chair bound, he is not deterred by his physical state. But rather he works hard to showcase his passion in painting.
In November 2013, he organized a solo arts exhibition at Alliance Francaise with the help of Alliance.
Such is the passion that is driving him that he wants to organize an art exhibition to show his art skills (Venue undecided yet). Since coming to The Gambia he has not been resting on his laurels. He took part in an art exhibition organized by the European Union office in The Gambia, where he represented his country Togo alongside five different nationalities from Senegal, Ireland, Gambia, and Nigeria. The event was done at the Ebojang Theatre in The Gambia opposite Gambia Football Federation house on May 6th 2014.
